One of the things that my family loves about Sweden is driving through the beautiful countryside. When in Burma, we were primarily constrained to the confines of Yangon and only got out once in a while with a taxi. Coming to Sweden, it was one of my priorities to get a car so that we could independently explore this country, and get lost on their back rural roads. And no matter where we drive, we are bound to see some very quaint churches. Below is a sampling of some of the Swedish country churches we have stumbled across.

We have only made it inside the Almhult church, the rest rolled by as we wound ourselves through the country side.
Visiting southern Sweden’s country churches was one of the highlights of the month I stayed with a family in Sweden when I was 11 years old. All or mostly whitewashed, they generally weren’t very decorative inside or out besides some of the altars and, in one church, models of Vikings-style ships hanging from the rafters. Some of them had post cards, if memory serves. Much preferred them to Malmo’s Cathedral, which was dark and cold. Would love to visit them again.
